Benefits of a US Consulate

There are many benefits of a US Consulate, both for the citizens of the US and for the country itself.

A US Consulate is the offices (and sometimes the home) of the representative of the American government in a foreign country. Their main task is to assist their fellow countrymen while they are abroad with issues such as passports, visas and licenses. They would also give advice if someone found themselves in legal trouble (the names of lawyers etc) or even contact the next of kin if someone was involved in an accident of some sort.

A US Consulate abroad also has many other benefits to the country which they are representing. They are paramount in keeping friendly negotiations between countries, and play an important role promoting peaceful activities while acting as an official government representative. They are also the 'eyes and ears' of the country wherever they are based, and can sometimes act as an early warning system when things start to go astray.

A US Consulate will work hard to promote the United States for trade, commerce and tourism purposes, promoting the gains and advantages that other countries would benefit from by becoming involved with the United States, holding information sessions and the like to help attract new business to their home country.
